Introduction
Greece had a small beginning with the small civilizations into the ancient Greece we know today. The Greeks had a good understanding of technology which led them to make great inventions. They were explorers that traded over seas. Their idea of religion was wide and had many great stories. They had creative minds and works of art. The Greeks were intelligent people with great customs.
Timeline
- The Minoan period lasted between 3000 to 1100 BC. During this time the Minoans settled around in Greece. They started the mythology and Greek language. This was important since they have started the customs of Greece. The Mycenaean later copied and succeed in spreading their customs.
- The Dark Ages for Greece lasted about from 1100 to 800 BC. During this time period the Minoans and Mycenaean were wiped out by the Dorian. There is little known about this period since the Dorian didn't have a writing system. After this city-states began.
- The Archaic Age lasted about from 800 to 500 BC. For the city-states trade and colonies have spread and grown. Two important city-states arouse from this age; Athens and Sparta.
- The Classical Age lasted about from 500 to 300 BC. Athens and Sparta were two of the most powerful city-states in Greece. Athens had a great government and Sparta a strong military system. Most city-states looked for guidance from Athens since it had a great democratic system.
